INVOLVEMENT/ROLES: Event Planner, Graphic Designer, & Writer
Exposing Truth is an event proposal that Lillian submitted for the PCMA Student Competition in Fall 2021. Competing against over 21 teams from across North America, Lillian’s proposal secured 2nd place.
The theme of the competition was “Combating Human Trafficking,” and Lillian’s team chose to focus on educating the key decision-makers responsible for passing laws and enacting policies to address this issue, specifically within the United States. While human trafficking is a global problem, Lillian’s team understood the importance of reforming policies within each country, as regulations differ across borders.
The primary stakeholders for this event were members of Congress, including the House of Representatives and Senate. Recognizing the demanding schedules of these stakeholders, Lillian and her team aimed to create an impactful and meaningful experience. The event incorporated storytelling and immersive scenes to portray the harsh realities of human trafficking. The goal was to evoke a response that would lead to stronger legal consequences for traffickers, particularly for the buyers (“Johns”) and suppliers (pimps).
The proposed location for Exposing Truth was the U.S. Capitol grounds, specifically Area 1, which serves as the designated demonstration area west of the building. The event’s mission was to raise awareness about the profound effects of human trafficking and initiate productive conversations among Congress members. Lillian and her team hoped the dialogue generated from the event would inspire the creation of laws that impose harsher punishments on those involved in trafficking.
As a standout feature of the proposal, Lillian is particularly proud of how the team submitted the event concept as a police investigative case file, adding a unique and compelling layer to the presentation. Their video presentation was designed to evoke the atmosphere of a detective interrogation interview, enhancing the intensity of the issue at hand.
